GEOLOGICAL HISTORY

The 22” and 27” Block Rock come from the sandstone layers found in the Mowry Formation. The sandstone has quartz in it that makes it very hard and durable. The Mowry was formed during the Upper Cretaceous period approximately 145 million years ago. The sandstone layers within the Mowry Formation are described by MBMG as; very fine- to fine- grained sandstone beds that are highly silicified, very hard quartzite.
